Memberships and subscription services represent a convenient method of paying for goods and services, but the set-it-and-forget-it format can be trouble for your finances. The biggest gotcha when signing up for a free trial of any monthly or yearly service is forgetting to cancel before the automatic enrollment kicks in, especially if it’s not useful to you. Companies know how to get you, too. By requiring you to enter payment information to access the complimentary trial with the promise to make auto-enrollment easy once the offer expires, they virtually lock you in as a new client from the get go. However, for many, this is a trap that results in paying for something you really don’t want or need. And because such monthly or yearly fees are often minimal, you may not even realize you’re wasting your hard earned dollars in the first place.
That’s why I was particularly excited to learn about Trim, a service that finds all the subscriptions on your credit card (Netflix, LinkedIn Premium, forgotten credit reports, etc.), to help you identify and cancel the ones you don’t want.
Take a moment to test the service and see if there are any monthly or yearly subscriptions/memberships that you aren’t using. The money you stop wasting could be used toward an end-of-summer vacation with your family instead! Doesn’t that sound nice?
