KTLA Morning News: Hassle-Free Ways to Earn Some Extra Cash

Andrea visited KTLA Morning News to share her favorite sites and apps for making money on the side. Watch the video or read her tips below.

If you’re looking for a way to boost savings or get out of debt faster, you may need to do more than cut expenses and reduce spending. Earning extra income may not seem like an option, but it’s possible! Here are 5 hassle-free ways to make money on the side.

1. Shop and Earn.

No matter how much you attempt to cut back, there are purchases you have to make so why not make money while shop? At Swagbucks.com, you can earn points for online purchases made through the site and cash out for gift cards to favorite stores and restaurants like Starbucks, Amazon and even PayPal. You can also earn points taking surveys, watching videos and discovering new products. 100 points equals $1, and you can cash out for as little as 300 points!

2. Give Your Opinion.

Marketing research firms are hired by businesses and other groups to get inside the heads of consumers to gauge their attitudes about particular products and services. To do so, they need people to participate in surveys and focus groups — and will pay participants with cash, gift cards or merchandise.  Use FindFocusGroups.com to find focus groups near you, covering everything from politics to baseball to video games to travel. You can earn $50 to $200 for your time and thoughts.

3. Be an Online Juror.

Some attorneys use large panels of online mock jurors to get feedback on their cases before they go to trial. Cases can take 20 minutes to an hour to review. EJury.com pays $5 to $10 per case via PayPal, and OnlineVerdict.com offers $20 to $60 with payments made by check. You can’t be an attorney, paralegal or legal assistant — or even related to an attorney — to participate. Sign up at a couple of sites and receive e-mail notifications if a case is posted in your county.

4. Rent Your Stuff.

If you have a car that sits in the garage for several hours during the day, put it to work by renting it through sites like GetAround.com. The site says you can earn over $800 a month renting your car and offset your vehicle expenses. They offer $1,000,000 primary insurance which includes primary liability, collision, comprehensive, theft, and uninsured motorist protection. Drivers are also screened to ensure they have a safe driving record. You can also rent your parking spot on SpotHero.com-an online marketplace that matches empty parking spots with drivers looking for a place to park.

5. Run Errands.

If you think lawn mowing and dog walking are jobs reserved for teenagers, think again. Sites like TaskRabbit enable people in need of help to list small tasks in exchange for payment, so you can hit the grocery store for $35 or clean someone’s house for $60. Check out Rover.com for dog-walking or pet sitting gigs. It’s a great option for nights and weekends to compliment your 9-5 job.
